Making Connections is all about making connections with disadvantaged individuals in our local communities...

How many people do you know in and around your church who are lonely and isolated? how many suffering through various addictions? any who are homeless? living with poor mental health?

If so, we want to help support you to start making connections with these people.

This is done through 2 interventions: Street Outreach and a drop-in café and both have proved to be highly effective in beginning to tackle some of the above issues.

Street Outreach

At the very heart of the work of Street Connect is our street outreach work, and the connections we make with people in need on the streets. Part of our ethos is that we do not wait until people come to us, we go out to where the people are.

Getting out onto the streets of local communities has proved to be a highly effective way of engaging with people.

Many of those we go on to work with more intensively through our Building Freedom are those we meet on the streets. One such individual we connected with on the streets said:

I can't speak highly enough about what Street Connect has done for me. I was a homeless drug addict living on the streets of Glasgow and had been on drugs for over 20 years. I could see no way out until I met [a member of Street Connect team]. When he spoke to me and offered to take me for a coffee I agreed, and it's one of the best decisions of my life, everything has changed for the better since that day. It's 10 months since then and I'm no longer on drugs, will be off my methadone soon and now have my own place. I now see a future for myself.

Drop-in Cafe's

Street Connect's drop-in cafes provide a safe space to build a relationship with people in our local communities.

Do you have a space in your local church you could invite people into? if not, what about a local community centre?

As well as providing a place to offer hope and opportunity of change, we also provide food and hot drinks, along with other practical support and advice.

One church partner had this to say about opening a Street Connect partnership drop-in café:

This is probably the best project we have started since the church began. We are making so many new connections with people in our community and seeing a number of these integrate into our local church and other church activities.
