Support Assistant

Part-Time: 25 hours per week

Based: Street Connect’s office in Glasgow city centre

Contract: 6 months

Salary: Under 18 £4.62 per hour and over 18 £9.50 per hour

Street Connect is a Christian charity that works in partnership with local churches. Our aim is to reach out to and support disadvantaged individuals in their recovery from drug and alcohol addiction, and the associated challenges including homelessness and poor mental health.

We work in Glasgow City Centre and in several deprived communities in the Greater Glasgow area and beyond.

Our services include street outreach, drop-in cafes, one-to-one support, group work, befriending, referrals to residential rehabilitation, supported accommodation and aftercare support for those who have completed a period in residential rehabilitation.

We are seeking an enthusiastic Support Assistant to assist with a range of office-based activities in support of the work of the organisation.

These activities could include any or all of the following dependent on your knowledge, skills and competencies, and the needs of the organisation:

  • To provide support to manager and staff in order to ensure the effective and efficient running of the organisation.
  • To be present in the Street Connect office to receive and handle enquiries, telephone calls and deal with day to day queries of staff, volunteers and participants.
  • To support the management of business processes and systems, including in relation to finances, data management and human resources.
  • To support the communications activities of the organisation including in relation to writing for and/or posting information on social media and website.
  • To support the fundraising activities of the organisation.

Essential skills, experience and qualification

  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Good interpersonal skills. Basic IT skills.
  • Non-judgemental attitude and sympathy with the values of Street Connect.

You will receive on the job support and training form your line manager and other staff that will improve your employment prospects.

In addition, specific employability support will be provided in liaison with GCVS through Jobs and Business Glasgow. Exact details are to be determined but the package is likely to incorporate weekly training sessions at the beginning and end of placement, possibly focussing on month 1 and 2 for personal development and then months 5 and 6 for more specific job search skills.
