News Blog Reflecting on The Feast This month marks an exciting time in the life of Street Connect, as we celebrate 8 years since our work began! Our recent Feast event gave us the opportunity to gather together (virtually), celebrate and thank God for all that He has done over the years, and look forward with hope and anticipation to the future. If you didn’t catch the event live, you can tune in to the recording here! So much has changed over the past 8 years – what started out as a small outreach project serving those in crisis in Glasgow City Centre, has grown into a fully-fledged and growing charity with 6 church partnership projects. But, at its heart, our mission remains the same. The scripture that inspired our Feast event was the Parable of the Great Banquet (Luke 14, v15-23), which tells the story of marginalised, poor and struggling people being welcomed in from the streets to be served around a feast table. Although our work has grown significantly since 2013, proactively reaching out to those in need and inviting them in for connection and support remains at the heart of what we do. It was so inspiring to hear from our church partners and committed volunteers, who know their communities intimately and are faithfully reaching out, showing God’s love, and making a difference in their local area. Partnership and working together is central to our mission, and we’re so thankful to everyone who has been part of the Street Connect story so far. We were honoured to have the talented Steph McLeod playing some music for us on the night. Steph’s testimony song, “When I Found Jesus” tells the story of how God changed his life – reflecting the journey many of our staff, volunteers and participants have also been on. It’s our hope that we can support many more people towards a similar transformation – from crisis to recovery and fullness of life – in the coming years, by partnering with more churches in the west of Scotland and further afield around the UK. There are loads of different ways to get involved with Street Connect, and contribute your unique gifts, skills, and passions – the possibilities are endless! We need your help now, more than ever, as our work continues to grow in response to the urgent needs that exist across our country. So, will you join us? Could your church partner with us to support people in desperate need in your community? Could you volunteer at one of our projects or contribute your skills in other ways (e.g., fundraising)? Could you commit to praying, perhaps getting involved in our volunteer prayer network? Could you give financially, by donating to our Fighting for a Better Future appeal? If you’re interested in getting involved or would like to find out more, please don’t hesitate to get in touch at [email protected] or 0141 237 5859.
